Welcome back, fellow bandleaders! In this tutorial, we’ll go over how to connect your PayPal account to Back On Stage so you can effortlessly manage client payments on invoices and issue payouts to your musicians. Let's dive right in!
Introduction to PayPal Integration
- Access Your Company Settings:
- Navigate to "Company Settings" in the left navigation bar.
- Click on "Details."
- Expand the "PayPal Settings" dropdown; all the instructions you'll need are available here.
- Log Into PayPal:
- Open a new tab and log into your PayPal Business account.
- Don’t have one yet? It’s simple to set up! You can even contact PayPal to convert a personal account.
Setting Up PayPal Developer Mode
- Toggle Developer Mode:
- In your PayPal dashboard, find and click on the square brackets icon (this toggles Developer Mode).
- Ensure you are in "Live Mode" and not "Sandbox" Mode.
- Create a New App:
- Navigate to "Apps and Credentials."
- Click "Create App."
- Name your app something memorable, like "Back On Stage."
Creating and Connecting Your PayPal App
- Obtain Credentials:
- PayPal will provide a "Client ID" and a "Secret." Copy these credentials.
- Connect Back On Stage:
- In Back On Stage, go to "Edit Credentials."
- Enable PayPal and paste the copied Client ID.
- Then, return to PayPal, copy the Secret, and paste it in the "Client Secret" field in Back On Stage.
- Hit "Save."
- Security Check:
- Enter the one-time passcode sent to your phone.
- Ensure your phone number is previously confirmed within your Back On Stage account.
Finalizing PayPal Integration
- Setup Webhooks:
- Go back to your PayPal Developer account.
- Scroll to the bottom to find "Live Webhooks."
- Click "Add Webhook."
- Copy the link from Back On Stage and paste it into the PayPal webhook section.
- Select "All Events" and save.
- Confirmation:
- You should now see your webhooks entry in PayPal, confirming everything’s set correctly.
Common Questions and Fees
- Fees:
- Client payments generally incur a 2.9% fee + $0.30 for credit cards.
- Member payouts have a flat fee of $0.25 USD.
- No fee for musicians receiving payouts.
- PayPal Accounts:
- Clients don’t need a PayPal account to pay.
- Members need a PayPal account to receive payouts through PayPal or Venmo.
Setting Up Member Payouts
Musicians must select their preferred payout method and input their credentials inside their personal Back On Stage profile by going to My Profile > Gig Payouts.
